After having played (and loving) Settlers of Catan and its sequel, Sefarers of Catan, I thought that this game would be a perfect follow-up, but I was mistaken. This game does add lots of depth to the original game--so much depth that myself and the others playing were lost and confused for a lot of the game. We didn't enjoy the game because we were constantly having to check rules and realizing that we were missing important aspects of the game. Eventually we figured out the rules but every time we try to play with a new person, it starts all over again.

Quality-wise, this game is right up there with its predecessors: high quality cardboard board pieces, wooden playing pieces and high qualiy cardstock cards. Also like its predecessors, Cities and Knights has lots of small pieces though they all have storages areas within the box.

Overall, this game is worth your money if you are willing to go the extra mile to figure out the rules and want added challenge to your Catan game. For me, this was too much--for people who love this type of game, then this is the best expansion by far. I was expecting something else entirely and thus my so-so review of this game.

This expansion brings the world of Catan to it's pinnacle!!! The rules seem very overwhelming when you read them, but once you actually put them into play they make so much sense. My wife and I loved the original game, but since we started playing Cities & Knights we cannot stand to play without it. It is really easy to collect the required victory points with the expansion and though the Cities & Knights rules increase the required VP's to 13, we find that in a two player game 15 allows for a little more action each game. I highly suggest this game to anyone who has a strategic mindset or wants to have more control over the island of Catan. As mentioned in multiple other reviews, be sure that you purchase the correct edition in reference to your edition of Settlers.
